Photo shoot with Matt Sutherland

Standard

I’m not a great photo taker. 90%of the photos I take are taken with my cell phone. The few that I’m in have been self portraits. Shaun has a fancy camera that never gets used (asides from the occasional surf session). He hates photos, so I really don’t have any pics of Lily and I. When I looked at some of Matt’s photos on his Facebook page, I knew he was the person to do a shoot for me.

We chatted three or four times before we met at the Durban Botanical Gardens. Matt wanted to know exactly what kind of shoot I wanted. I wanted fun and casual, nothing staged and formal. We played in the park for two hours or so, often forgetting Matt was there! Lily and her best friend Liam played, while my mom, Liams mom and I had a picnic. image I am thrilled with the pictures and have already started nagging Shaun for a real family shoot, one where he is in the photos as well! Matt also does preggie shoots, newborn shoots, weddings and anything else you want. He’s chilled and friendly and can coax a beautiful picture out of anything. image image image image image image image

Toilet paper in the bath

Standard

Lilys favorite thing to do is bath. She absolutely loves it. As soon as she has finished dinner, she runs through to the bathroom while Shaun runs her bath and eagerly tries to climb in, and pull her clothes off, while it runs. I use this time to quickly tidy the kitchen and then go bath with her. If we take to long getting her in the bath she starts throwing things in. Its almost like she feels if SHE can’t get in, at least something can. So she’ll grab the towels off the towel rack (ok ok from the floor), or run through to her play room and grab her doll. She’s tried to throw the scale in the bath and my cell phone, as well as magazines. The worst thing though is toilet paper! She grabs the toilet roll, pulls off a handful of paper and throws it in! I then get in the bath (after fishing out the things that aren’t meant to be in there!) And try scoop out wet toilet paper! Not easy and very annoying!

My sweet baby, monster child, really keeps us on our toes! Last week I opened the toilet and found her bottle in it! We are constantly finding our car keys in her ball pond, the cordless phone in her doll pram and my purse and its contents scattered all over the house. She has flooded the tv unit by pouring her bottle all over it, she’s pulled the arms off my sunglasses and threw my last blackberry on the floor so many times, that it won’t switch on anymore. My car is a tip, full of beach sand and crushed marie biscuits, my handbag has a fine layer of crushed who-knows-what at the bottom of it and my (new) cellphones buttons stick already from all the sticky fingers. (Hers, not mine!). My kitchen cupboards are a state, as are my bedroom cupboards. Lily pulls everything out of them daily, I spend my life tripping over tupperware, or standing on high heels that she’s dragged into the passage. Our house is a toy explosion, my neighbor knocked on my door the other day with an armful of toys ‘your house is leaking toys’ she said. My baby is very generous you see, she stands at the door and throws her toys out, so everyone can play with them!

Our life will never be neat and tidy, our house will never be quiet (unless the baby is sleeping, in which case you could hear a pin drop), my car will never be pristine, my white pants will never stay white and my cupboards will never be tidy. But our life is full of fun, of jumping in puddles, learning new things, rolling down hills and playing in the sand. Our life is about giggles, hide and seek, peek a boo and jumping on the bed. Teletubbies and Mister Maker, Marie Biscuits and Flings. Playdates and nap drives and all things messy, girly, loud and FUN!

Water baby

Standard

Lily loves water, she is her daddys child through and through! Shaun is dying to take her out on his board, I have heart palpatations when I think of it, but has said he’ll take her when she’s four. So I have time to be ok with it! We don’t have a pool but got her a blow up one to play in, she loved it! The water was freezing- I know because she kept splashing me! Shaun says it’s a “mom thing”, but I HATE being splashed!

Here are some pics of her in her pool. Such a sweet water baby!

The Little Company

Standard

We all have our ‘can’t leave the house without’ baby items. For me its Lilys doll that her great great grandmother sent her for her birthday, complete with hand made clothes. For my BMFF (best mom friend forever) Katherine, it’s Liams taggy and dummy. It’s rare for you to see him without one or the other. When she moved back from the UK she realized what a shortage of baby goodies we have in SA so she decided to make her own. She started a company, in fact she started The Little Company! Starting with taggies and dummy clips, she has since branched out and now makes beautiful bandana bibs, ‘no drops’ and receiving blankets aswell. She also makes baby sleeping bags, I’ve never seen them made so beautifully in SA, they are fantastic quality in gorgeous fabrics.

Lily has a taggy (or two), a dummy clip and a few bibs. The bibs are definitely my fave as they look cute and are saving her clothes as well! Lily doesn’t use a dummy so I use her dummy clip to clip a toy to her pram or I’ve even used it to clip my car keys to my handbag. The uses are endless.

Katherines prices are amazing, especially considering all her products are handmade. She will personalize  items for you as well as source fabrics, if you have something specific in mind. She makes gorgeous gift boxes containing a few items, the perfect gift for a baby shower or a welcome home gift.

Reviews

Standard

I have decided to do a few reviews on my blog, before you stop reading them and brush them off as the normal advert, please don’t! I seriously wouldn’t review something I didn’t think was worth a look at.

I will NEVER review something that I haven’t loved.

So I’m not a sell out guys, seriously. When I find products I love, I’m going to write about them, I don’t  get paid for it.

Bits and bobs

Standard

A few random things, in bullet form due to utter laziness.

1. Lily has 5 teeth now and is running around like a pro! She can’t climb up yet but she’s almost there.
2. She’s a chatter and a gabber but she doesn’t say many ‘grown up’ words. She says ‘up’, ‘ta’, ‘dada’ but that’s it really
3. She has started waving and dancing. It’s taken the cuteness to a whole new level
4. Her fave toy is her dolly from her great great granny. she doesn’t go anywhere without it.
5. I’ve made a few things off pinterest that have worked really well. Home made make up remover  (baby shampoo, baby oil and water) which is the best make up remover I’ve ever used. Microwave popcorn (popcorn kernels in a paper bag, no fat! ) and coconut oil in my hair (lovely soft hair). Going to do some of the kiddie ideas with Lily soon.
6. Job hunt is still not going well. I’m writing lots and hoping something will come out of that would be nice to get paid for something I love doing.
7. I went to my first La Leche League meeting a few weeks ago and loved it! So nice to meet moms in real life who are just like me!  Next one is on Friday and I’m making lemon cake
8. My cooking skills have gone out of the window, my poor husband. I’m battling to cook with a toddler on my hip and seem to burn than
